After-care is just part of the service

When Calgraphics was looking to diversify its offering and purchase a new printer, Spicers was the perfect fit, not just for the hardware, but also for the advice and after-care they needed.

In a time of great change for the sign and display industry, many companies are recognising the need to move with the times or fall behind. Andrew Bennett, Managing Director of Melbourne’s Calgraphics Group, which specialises in branding, exterior and interior solutions for the transport and petroleum industries, decided to diversify by purchasing the environmentally sustainable EFI Vutek GS3250LX hybrid LED-curing UV printer. Turning to the industry knowledge of Spicers, he found a good match in a team that was similarly expanding.

Recognising an increasing industry need, Spicers continues to grow its Sign and Display Technical Service team. Ben Templeton, a trainee technician who joined the company in November of last year, was part of the team that worked with Calgraphics on the successful installation of the Vutek.

“We actually scheduled the install to take three weeks and ended up finishing it early,” said Templeton.

Going beyond the installation, the Spicers team worked to ensure a smooth handover, including in-house training and advice on everything from the best filtration system, the design of a ventilation system, and advice on workflow solutions.

“The team at Calgraphics are very friendly and diligent and it was a very smooth transition,” Templeton adds. “I’ve learnt a lot in the process. The feedback has been very positive and they seem to really appreciate the after-sales support our team provides them with”.

Bennett says that the breadth of Spicers knowledge base helped him get the most out of the transaction.

“When we had laminator issues and needed some urgent assistance, Spicers were able to point us in the right direction,” he says. “That’s what strong relationships are built on.”

Bennett says it’s important for any business that is looking to learn, grow and diversify, to have the support of its suppliers.

“Being the second installation of the Vutek GS3250LX in Australia, it’s fair to say we had a few teething issues,” Bennett admits. “That’s where the Spicers team came to the fore, diagnosing the issue to be hardware related.
Spicers changed some hardware components and we’ve been soaring since then.”
