Show stoppers

When you have a 6 x 9 stand, an immense Italian dual gantry
cutting table, two renowned printing machines, five LED
screens and, to top it all off, a circular LED screen suspended from the ceiling, you’re bound to make an impact.

And so Spicers did, at the recent Visual Impact show in Sydney.

So much so that even print media took notice of the people flocking to the B8 stand, with Spicers team members being interviewed accordingly.

‘We were well and truly noticed and the stand looked fantastic. A lot of work went into putting it all together behind the scenes, but it all paid off and we were very happy with the result,’ comments Harry Pagoulatos, Marketing and Business Development Manager.

Being a smaller show, the theme was simple and effective – Hardware & Application Solutions, brought to you by Spicers, and we let our products speak for themselves.

“One of the ‘highlights’ was definitely the LED screen above the stand. It was an exercise in organisation to have it rigged up there, but it certainly drew attention to what we now have on offer,” adds Harry.

While the focus was on our hardware, our consumables were also present, with our LG vinyl range, our new printable floor vinyl – Fotoboden, Komaprint PVC, Corflute and Ace Screenboard impressing everyone. Our superstar measuring app, Spike – which had been the focus of Visual Impact Brisbane, was also back for good measure.

Like a great recipe, our mix of hardware and consumables were to the taste of the interested crowd, and sales and leads were fantastic.

“We had outstanding leads and sales for both hardware and consumables, with the Spicers team and all that the Spicers brand stands for delivering excellent results yet again,” said Jason Hay, National Sales Manager – Hardware. “Some of the sales from the show so far include an Elitron SD+, a JFX200, a CFL cutter and a CJV300, not to mention all the consumables.”

“We’re now looking forward to PacPrint Melbourne in May 2017,
it is shaping up to be a huge show!” adds Jason.

Time will tell just how many screens will be suspended from the roof at that one…

Photo Fabulous

Signarama Boronia recently updated their interior space AND their printers, and we were privileged to have a bit to do with it.

Tired of working in a plain white office environment, Signarama in Boronia, Victoria decided to refresh their walls, but not before they updated their printing hardware.

Owned and run by Guy and Michelle Moorhouse, the well-established sign business not far from the foot of Victoria’s beautiful Dandenong Ranges recently purchased two Mimaki’s from us – a JV400-160LX and a JFX200-2513.

“We needed to update our equipment and technology to cater to growing demand, and did a lot of research,” comments Guy, who bought the business in 2012. “After a demo on the Mimaki’s from Spicers, we were sold!”

Producing a lot of Corflute, PVC and Aluminium Composite Panel signs, both a roll to roll and a flatbed were the best option for the company.

“We had a great experience with the installation of the machines. There was very little downtime. They were up and running within a day and with the latex machine we can now produce the sign on the same day we install it,” says Guy. “And the flatbed is fantastic – we no longer need to outsource our bulk Corflute, PVC or Foamboard work, which is obviously great for us. In fact, with the Mimaki JFX200 Flatbed, we can now print directly to a wide variety of rigid materials. Our capabilities have increased dramatically with these two machines.”

Adding to the machine’s workload was the updating of the team’s print room and reception area.

“Our in-house Graphic Designer created a vibrant design that was both professional and eye-catching,” said Guy. “Spicers gave us the idea to use Photo-Tex OPA, a self-adhesive fabric, and our production manager had no problem installing it himself. It’s also easy to remove, so we can update it every couple of years without the hassle you would have with changing wallpaper. In fact, it worked so well, we’re going to use Photo-Tex OPA on our feature wall at home now!”

IT’S A KALA GALA

Not to be overlooked amongst Spicers extensive hardware range, the remarkable Kala collection of laminators are a dream to work with.

Spicers hardware range has been growing steadily since the company diversified its offering some five years ago. Amongst big brands such as Mimaki, EFI, Fotoba and Rollsroller are the European-made, industrial strength laminators by Kala.

“We started stocking Kala laminators in 2013,” comments Jason Hay, Spicers National Sales Manager Sign & Display – Hardware. “We’ve worked with other laminators and found the Kala range to be top quality.”

Spicers currently has three types of laminators in stock and available for delivery today.

Like the Arkane 1650, the Mistral 1650 is also available in 165cm with 50mm thick mounting and speeds up to 6.2m per minute. Unlike its sister machine, the Mistral is a cold laminator with upper roller heat assist, adjustable from 30°C to 60°C in steps of 5°C. It also gives you unbeatable performance at a competitive price.

The new Atlantic 1650 offers hot and cold lamination up to 140°C and is perfect for those with extremely demanding finishing requirements. Designed to give you the widest choice of finishing possibilities, it’s available in 165cm with mounting up to 50mm thick and speeds of 6.4m per minute.

“We’re pleased to be able to offer this range to our customers. Kala laminators are built to last for over 15 years, and with LED display and 1,650mm wide, you can’t top them.” Jason concludes.

Impressive Mimaki

Spicers Australia’s agreement with Mimaki Australia has proved popular with customers.

Since the announcement of the Mimaki and Spicers alliance in November last year, Spicers has been busy with an influx of queries and quotes for
the reputable printers.

“The feedback from the Mimaki deal has been great,” comments Jason Hay, Spicers National Sales Manager – Hardware Division. “Mimaki is a leading manufacturer of some fantastic wide-format inkjet printers and cutting machines, and customers have been very pleased with the additional print solutions we can now offer them.”

Just some of the machines attracting interest are:

Quality, reliability and speed delivered

Leaving a little green footprint and getting some brilliant print results in the process is Spicers Perth’s client All Flags Signs and Banners.

Well known in Kenwick, Western Australia for its huge array of wraps, signs, flags, fence meshing and internal and external displays, the company recently purchased not one, but two Rastek EFI H652 UV hybrid printers from Spicers.

“We were looking for a Vutek or a Rastek so we could process a large amount of our Corflute work, which we were previously producing on self adhesive vinyl and then mounting,” comments Peter Wagner, All Flags Signs and Banners. “We currently have three Vutek’s, but decided to go with the H652 as we’ve heard such great things about them.”

Roger Rankine, Spicers Regional Manager in WA, concurs with Peter. “The H652 is a great little machine. Customers often buy it for Corflute signs but soon realise the host of other applications it can be used for. It’s also fast with fantastic image quality and a high rate of return. You really can pay for the printer by just using it a couple of hours a day.”

This hasn’t been a problem for All Flags, with the machines running hot right from installation.

“We have some large jobs on at the moment for some big sporting stadiums,” Peter adds. “The machines have pretty much been going since they got here, so I guess they’ve almost paid for themselves!”

EFI™ Rastek™ H652

The EFI™ Rastek™ H652 is an affordable UV hybrid printer that produces superb photographic image quality, including white. It can handle a wide range of substrates with its versatile vacuum belt media transport system. Typical substrates used are Synajet Foamed PVC, Skybond and Graphex®. Perfect for banners, flags, and indoor and outdoor signs, the H652 also has a small carbon footprint.
